Mountain Bench: An Intersection of Oriental Aesthetics and Modern Design

Yi Feng's Award-Winning Design Marries Functionality with Zen-Inspired Beauty

The Mountain Bench, handcrafted in China from solid mahogany, stands out for its smooth shape and high-quality appearance. The surface is painted to ensure durability and ease of cleaning, making it suitable for use in public spaces and living rooms. The bench's design, which incorporates elements of oriental aesthetics, was realized through a collaboration with a local factory and upholstering company, resulting in a high-quality piece of design furniture.

Yi Feng embarked on this project in September 2018 in Beijing and completed it in August 2019 in Auburn. The design process involved extensive research into contemporary daily life habits and living room spaces with oriental aesthetics. The goal was to identify the real needs of a style that incorporates oriental aesthetics into the family setting. The Mountain Bench is a successful attempt to fulfill these needs.

The bench's backrest, shaped like a mountain, is derived from Chinese classical aesthetics, offering users both practical and aesthetic values. This design challenge was to create a piece of design with oriental aesthetic product for a touch of fun. The design successfully integrates materials and technology to create joy for life.

The Mountain Bench was inspired by the traditional aesthetic elements of Chinese painting. The design was dedicated to presenting the user with an aesthetic of oriental Zen. The Mountain Bench was made of mahogany, and the parts were hand polished, and finally painted to ensure the appearance. It is easy to clean, easy to manufacture and suitable for use in the living room.

Yi Feng's Mountain Bench was recognized with the Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
